Constitution

Main Aims

The regeneration of historic Newington Green London N16, through local community effort by restoring it to popular use as a natural focus for the area.

Community Regeneration Projects

Whilst the basic physical regeneration of the area was completed at the end of 2005, the group is now working to ensure that the improvements are maintained and to encourage new developments that are of benefit to the whole community.

The NGAG monitor planning applications and public transport, organise local events (planting, jazz on the Green, fairs etc), participate in various steering groups, including the local Neighbourhood Safer Streets Team and the Mildmay Festival Committee, liaise with the Council, link in with other organisations in the area, and come up with ideas to bring the community together.

National Awards

The Newington Green Action Group won the Green Flag Award (the national standard for parks and green spaces in England and Wales) in 2006/7, 2007/8 and again for 2008/9. The group also won the Green Heritage Site Award (sponsored by English Heritage) in 2007 and Newington Green is one of just 42 sites in the UK to be given this award in 2008.

In 2008 the NGAG has been awarded a Breathing Places Grant from the Big Lottery Fund, in order to create some wildlife habitats around Newington Green and the immediate area.
