Feed the Birds

Our Community Ranger, Fiona Mackenzie-Cardy, ran a 'Feed the Birds' session on Newington Green in February 2010 and this will be repeated in February 2011. Fiona brought all the materials along and showed children how to make attractive bird-friendly feeders out of natural materials.

The feeders were made from twigs and fir cones such as this one, which has been filled with cooking fat, dried fruits and bird seeds, then hung on the trees on the Green. They are easy to make and you can create some for your own garden or balcony and watch the birds enjoying them. Blue Tits and Great Tits in particular, really love the seeds and robins love the fruit!
