Blackbird Feeding Nestlings

Blackbird Feeding Nestlings

Blackbird Feeding Nestlings ~ Turdus merula

Both male and female blackbirds help with the busy task of finding food for their young. This male blackbird is putting food right down inside the nestling's beak and wide gape, which is clearly visible.

How wonderful to be able to see this happening on your own balcony in urban Newington Green! It just goes to show that you really can help wildlife, as here, by providing suitable plants for birds to nest in, even when you don't have a garden. If you don't have room for a large wisteria like this, smaller plants could still provide cover for a nesting box which many birds would be grateful to use for their nests.
