Islington Wildlife

LB Islington have created a new Blog all about the wildlife that lives in Islington. It may be surprising to some people that any wildlife can survive in such a built-up urban area but when we start looking around us, it is even possible find some rare species that manage to survive amongst the more usual creatures and plants that live alongside us in our local area.

London In Bloom Awards 2009 - Update

Newington Green Action Group has been awarded a Neighbourhood Certificate of Merit in the RHS London in Bloom Awards 2009.

This is the first time that the Newington Green area has been entered for this award. The 30 new trees that NGAG planted around the area, the new planting on the Green itself, the voluntary work of Tree Carers and those people that planted up tree pits and put out window boxes, as in Winston Rd. have all contributed to our being given an Award of Merit.

Progress Report on the Wildlife in Newington Green Project - WING

Things have been moving behind the scenes with NGAG's wildlife project and we finally have a name for it:

Wildlife in Newington Green - WING

We can begin to see some action taking place, both on the Green and in the local streets. We have put up some more bird feeders on the Green before the cold weather set in and birds struggled to find food and the birds are beginning to use these. Later, we will also put up some bee nesting cylinders and insect hibernation boxes, to help butterflies, ladybirds etc to survive the next winters.
