Jazz on the Green 2012

Jazz on the Green 2012

Newington Green Action Group's popular annual jazz  picnic was an extended event this year, to celebrate the Queen's Jubilee.

Despite the weeks of rain prior to Jazz on the Green, we were really lucky and the rain held off and we even had moments of sunshine, so we could all enjoy the afternoon. It was St Swithun's Day and traditionally, whatever weather we had that day for the Jazz, we are supposed to get for 40 days following. Time will tell just how correct - or not - this old belief is....

Live Music

The ever popular Brass Volcanoes returned again this year with their mix of funk, blues and salsa. They were followed by the Basin Street Brawlers who brought us trad jazz and ragtime and people enjoyed listening to the live music until the early evening.

Newington Green Traders Association once again ran a number of fantastic food, drinks and other stalls on the Green:

  • The Alma ~ English pies, marinated scallops.....
  • Canli Balik ~ Turkish meze....
  • Newington Green Traders Association ~ Cider Stall
  • Omar ~ Fresh Coconut Juice
  • That Place on the Green ~ BBQ, Falafel, Pimms, Ice cream.....

Other stalls included:

This year we were also joined by the Hackney Police Cadets who kindly acted as stewards for the event, were on hand for any first aid that might have been required and they also had a 'Lost Children' pick up point, so their help was much appreciated!

NGAG is pleased to record that we received £205.50 in donations from the people who attended the afternoon, so thank you everyone for contributing towards the funds for next year's Jazz on the Green.
